3 years ago, Candida Presta got her Food Truck – Le Point Sans G! Today, her first month in a local resto with the same name on 6680 rue Papineau, corner St-Zotique!
She was a chef by trade for 20 years and fell sick to cancer. She was told to go gluten-free and her road to recovery was not so tasty. After 5 years of experimenting in the kitchen with gluten-free recipes, she was ready. Her style, of course, Italian, as it is her heritage and nature. Passionate in all she does, especially in the kitchen. It’s an experience just to meet her.
First famous for her fried gnocchi, amaretti cookies and aranchini, now people flock to find her veal and mortadella burgers with pistachio pesto and Chicken pulled poutine, with sweet potato fries, covered with green tomatillo sauce, corn salsa and pickled radish. The flavours tingle in your mouth and she knows how to embellish the ordinary! Her food truck has become increasingly successful each year as it opens April 1st – October 31 each year. She uses facebook to tell her fans where she will be (usually in the downtown area) and they follow her.
Last summer Julia Morin came into the picture! Candida’s long time, trustworthy friend and past co-worker allowed Candy to expand and fulfill her dreams. Together, a most talented duo, they will manage both the cooking, the truck and the new store. This summer you will see Julia in the truck and Candida at the resto.
For the first winter, you can now enjoy Candida’s goodies. She posts her menus on facebook so check it out her facebook page Le-point-sans-g (https://www.facebook.com/Le-point-sans-g-373260342795161/?fref=ts) She can also be reached at (514) 641-7768. Keep the number handy!
She makes a set planned menu that changes daily. Fresh muffins, a variety of desserts and some delicious comfort platters.
We tasted her:
• Chicken pulled poutine, with sweet potato fries, covered with green tomatillo sauce, corn salsa and pickled radish
• Grilled Cheese sandwich
• Frittata and salad
• 2 kinds of bûche noel, lemon cake, and a date square
Ok, so we had to take a small care package home, but we had no complaints about that! My kids were in heaven! Tasty, yummy, fun, filling, a real treat!
EVERYTHING IS GLUTEN-FREE, so no worries about cross contamination. Not everything is dairy–free so please ask ahead. She does not have peanuts, but she does have nuts. (She makes amazing biscottis too!) We worked around it and she took great care of us!
The place only seats 6, so make your reservation to ensure you get a seat. The atmosphere is quaint and the service is excellent. You can place your order ahead and take out too. If you stop by for a muffin or dessert, stay for coffee, cappuccino or expresso!
We are so happy we found this gem of a place. Please support the gluten-free community and give it a try. You won’t be sorry!
